Chun Chieh Fan

I work on how the brain develops and how its disorders emerge, questions rooted in human biology that no single method settles. I bring causal inference, machine learning, and statistical modeling to the data these questions demand: national registries and electronic health records, and multimodal cohorts spanning genomics, proteomics, and brain imaging. Working at that scale also means building the platforms and tools a whole consortium runs on, which I've done as a principal investigator and as co-chair of the genetics groups for the ABCD and HBCD studies.

I am a computational neuroscientist, an epidemiologist, a statistical geneticist, an engineer, and a board-certified psychiatrist (Taiwan). I run the statistics, write the code, and lead the teams and consortia that answer hard biological questions, from large, complex cohorts to tool platforms others rely on. As a generalist by design, this breadth of domain knowledge is now a salient advantage in this era of large language models. Once any single discipline is automatable, the scarce skill is judgment across all of them. That is the work I do.
